Calling all Moth Mavens: Name That Moth!

Found this large moth sitting on the steps as we returned home from a dog walk last week.

We tried a little image matching but didn't succeed in making a positive identification. But, perhaps one of you is a moth maven and can tell us a bit about this beautiful creature.

    No, this is the only photo of it. It sat perfectly still for a long time and didn’t move at all while I watched and waited, hoping to get a second or third photo. It was gone when I returned to check on it later.
