These Canada Geese are "eating machines." A single Canada goose can consume four pounds of grass and from that produces two pounds of waste per day. There are Canada Goose control programs on the Esplanade and in the Public Garden but not at Charlesgate where this photo was taken.

    Did you know that some of the Esplanade Canada Geese management programs involve some very hard working Border Collies? Maybe one could be featured as a Sunday Dog when they are back in action this year…

    Excellent idea. I understand that most of them are rescues who couldn’t make it in normal homes because they were obsessed with work. Perfect dogs for a strong trainer who has critical work that requires high level skill.

    The “girls” I met who were working the geese were under the owner/stewardship/obvious wearing-his-love-on-his-sleeve/face of a professional. We chatted as he directed, and I marveled, at the work the two BCs were doing. The dogs obviously, love, Love, LOVE this work. This was several years ago, though, so the current geese wranglers may well be different.
