With a few days of rain last week, we needed a reason to smile, so we braved the rain to get a supply of Dungeness crab from James Hook & Company.

These two pound beauties waited in the sink while the big crab pot started to steam.

They really are beautiful when you look at the details of the shells.

We keep it simple. Some slices of lemon and a big scoop of Old Bay Seasoning goes over the crabs as we layer them in the pot.

Then, we enjoy the pleasure of a rainy afternoon cracking crabs, picking out the luscious meat, chatting, and sipping fine wine. Rainy day or sunny day, this can be a wonderful way to relax and spend time with friends.

This reminds me of a charming but novice waiter my squeeze and I once had at a seafood restaurant, who kept pronouncing it “dunga-KNEES” crab.

Too funny. Ed is great at getting pronunciations right and he does try to teach me but I’m a poor student of language.
We learned the name comes a place in Washington state. We were trying to figure out why the D was always capitalized.
That sauerkraut on your site looks great. Now making that would make me Nervous. http://www.thenervouscook.com/2012/03/kraut-and-competitions.html
