Tips on Using These Resources
While there are some things I dislike about the organization that manages it, I do find a lot to like about the locals who take part in Chowhound conversations. I appreciate:
- The time and effort put in by dozens of volunteers who offer information and recommendations so that others can learn and enjoy food in our great city.
- Keeping up with the food scene by reading a daily RSS feed on the Boston Board and the boards for any other place I visit frequently like Cape Cod or Maine.
- The community of mostly very nice people who love food and Boston.
- The moderators who manage to keep things civilized and on-topic and only go overboard occasionally.
Notice that I said I read Chowhound on an RSS feed. This lets me skip topics of no interest to me. I'm not going to be dining in many of the suburban towns that are mentioned. I'm not a cocktail fan – I won't click over to read about the latest and greatest drink.
By looking at the poster's screen name, I can click over when one of my favorite food scouts has a recommendation and skip the people who have never offered guidance of value to me – who have radically different taste from mine.
While Chowhound offers people who are food focused, Universal Hub will get you the widest opinion from the Greater Boston Community. I love that Adam has begun to help food lovers find places and ingredients via twitter aggregation.
