Under the old administration, street cleaning was a seasonal activity that ended before all the leaves fell from the trees.
That way, the winter crews could plow the leaves up onto the sidewalks where they were no longer the city's problem. In most parts of the city, the property owners clean the sidewalks or they remain a mess.
Of course, some smart people will sweep this mess back into the street in time for the city to pick it up when street sweeping resumes on April 1st.
One more Boston tradition for the new team at City Hall to drag kicking and screaming into this century.
