The Tale of Teddy and the Stick

Teddy is not the typical dog you think of when you picture a dog chasing a stick and carrying it with pride. Admit it, when you think of dogs and sticks, doesn't a big old Lab come to mind?

As you can see, Teddy is a bit smaller than a Lab, but he has a big heart and a good dose of attitude!

He was totally engaged in a game of toss the stick, capture it, and prance around holding his prize.

Teddy says, "Don't you dare come near my stick!"

10,000 Steps Inside the Prudential Center & Copley Place

One way to achieve your 10,000 steps a day goal in these cold temperatures is to do your walking inside. Some of you may opt for a treadmill but I like to stride the corridors of Boston's Prudential Center and Copley Place.

As you can see, so do many others. This corridor that links the Boylston Street entrance of the Prudential Center with a bridge to Lord and Taylor has been much busier the past few days.

Palm trees, tropical plants, and the glow pouring through skylights make it seem warm and welcoming in winter. (Even when you spot a snowman in the garden outside.)

The Prudential Center has created a map to show you the mileage for various paths through the complex.

You can either Download the Prudential Center Walker's Guide or pick up a copy at the Information Booth.

Copley Place is connected to the Pru by a bridge across Huntington Avenue. They don't have a walking guide but your fitness tracker or pedometer will tell you when you are near your goal.

10,000 Steps Inside the Prudential Center & Copley Place

Valentine’s Day 2014 – Ideas for Romantic Dining in Boston
Enjoying a Valentine's Day Dinner that is as perfect as this lovely scene takes some planning.

UPDATE: This is an outdated post. Here is the 2015 version of this information!

This year, February 14th falls on a Friday and that gives you the opportunity to plan a romantic weekend or one day with your true love and a couple more meals with friends close to your heart.

Some of you enjoy trying the special holiday menus at your favorite spots. Others avoid dining out on days like this unless they can order off the regular menu. Be on the lookout for special menus beyond that one official day. We noticed a few on the lists below that have special menus for the 14th throught the 16th.

This is one of the busiest nights of the year for restaurants, so expect many special prix fixe menus and don't be surprised if you have to leave a credit card to guarantee a reservation.

We love sharing food and Coppa is one of our favorite places to spend an afternoon nibbling and sharing plates of delicious offerings like the meatballs and asparagus above. Coppa has a special prix fixe menu on the 14th but seems to be back to normal for the rest of the weekend, so you might reserve for Saturday night or Sunday brunch or dinner.

Ed loves a great burger but is very particular about what he considers great. Taking him to lunch at the Bristol Lounge for one of his favorite burgers in Boston would be a great Valentine treat in his eyes. You have to think about what that person you love would really like for the highlight of their Valentine's meal.

Do you have a chocolate lover to satiate? A perfectly ordinary afternoon turned into a romantic memory when Ed and I shared this giant profiterole at Petit Robert in the South End.

Out Walking in a Weekend of Wet and Snowy…

City Slickers Come in All Sizes!

It's been said that, "Clothes make the man." And, after looking at these two city slickers, we'd have to agree!

Of course, as any hearty New Englander will tell you, it's much more than style that influences a guy's wardrobe. When the weather turns unfriendly, many Bostonians reach for the comfort and security of reliable rain gear. Soggy city slogs on a wet and windy day are always more fun when you slip on your slicker. That's why Puggy and Jay pull on the best protection they can find.

Although we asked both of them if they intentionally chose the same style and color, each insisted he had purchased his slicker online without any help from the other.

Either way, we thought you'd enjoy seeing this dapper duo as they set out on their damp walk.
