Dogs in the Commonwealth are required to have a 2016 dog license by April 1st.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">&#0160;<a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/bostonzest.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00e54fc42bb8883401bb08c94429970d-popup\" onclick=\"window.open( this.href, &#39;_blank&#39;, &#39;width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0&#39; ); return false\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"6a00e54fc42bb8883401b7c81894bc970b-800wi\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00e54fc42bb8883401bb08c94429970d img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/bostonzest.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00e54fc42bb8883401bb08c94429970d-500wi\" style=\"width: 500px;\" title=\"6a00e54fc42bb8883401b7c81894bc970b-800wi\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">When we met <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonzest.com\/2016\/02\/guinness-month-is-almost-here.html\">this adorable Boston newcomer <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonzest.com\/2016\/02\/guinness-month-is-almost-here.html\">&quot;Guinness&quot;<\/a> recently, he already had his license.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I put a reminder on my calendar and usually <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofboston.gov\/animals\/doglicense\/\">apply for a Boston dog license online.<\/a> You can also download an application to mail at that page.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">If your dog, like my Poppy, is already registered, enter the current license number and all your information should be filled in by the system. Next, you upload photos of a spay certificate and current rabies record. Then, you enter your credit card information and complete the transaction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">If you prefer the snail mail option, you should receive a package in the mail if your dog is currently licensed. If not, and you want to get a license in person, visit the Animal Care and Control Department at 1010 Massachusetts Avenue. Bring a current rabies certificate and a spay\/neuter certificate if you have one. A prepared check or money order will save time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">You can also get your license at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofboston.gov\/calendar\/cityhalltogo.asp\">City Hall To Go truck<\/a> at one of its scheduled spots around town. Just bring the same documents and a check with you.&#0160;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><strong>Low-Cost Clinics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The city has a series of Dog Licensing &amp; Low-Cost Rabies Vaccine Clinics each year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofboston.gov\/animals\/\">Here&#39;s a link to a copy of this year&#39;s events.<\/a>&#0160;It was in the right-hand sidebar at the time of this writing.&#0160;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/bostonzest.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00e54fc42bb8883401b7c824c2d1970b-popup\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"2016 rabies clinic flyer\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00e54fc42bb8883401b7c824c2d1970b img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/bostonzest.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00e54fc42bb8883401b7c824c2d1970b-500wi\" style=\"width: 500px; border: 1px solid #000000;\" title=\"2016 rabies clinic flyer\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><strong>Should Dogs or People Be Licensed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Over the years, the group of dog lovers that walks with us has often discussed an option of having people licensed as legal caretakers of animals rather than attaching the license to the dog. Then the responsible caregivers could register the animals they have under that license and receive tags for each.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The legislature has a task force looking at a possible statewide Animal Abuse Registry.
