Did you ever wonder who the three men are in the bas-relief profile on the base?&#0160;<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/siris-artinventories.si.edu\/ipac20\/ipac.jsp?&amp;profile=all&amp;source=~!siartinventories&amp;uri=full=3100001~!18433~!0#focus\">the Smithsonian Museum&#39;s database of outdoor sculpture<\/a>, they are (from right to left) <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Washington\">George Washington<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alexander_Hamilton\">Alexander Hamilton<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Jay\">John Jay<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few tidbits you may not know about this statue of&#0160;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alexander_Hamilton\">Alexander Hamilton<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Lucida Sans Typewriter;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; line-height: 15px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bostonzest.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00e54fc42bb888340120a8a105e0970b-popup\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_6684 - Version 2\" class=\"asset asset-image at-xid-6a00e54fc42bb888340120a8a105e0970b \" src=\"https:\/\/bostonzest.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00e54fc42bb888340120a8a105e0970b-400wi\" style=\"width: 400px;\" \/><\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; line-height: 15px;\">This sculpture has been located between Arlington and Berkeley Streets on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall since 1865.&#0160; <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; line-height: 15px;\">It&#39;s one of the few surviving works by <\/span><span style=\"line-height: 15px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Rimmer\">Dr. William Rimmer<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; line-height: 15px;\">, whose father claimed to be <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louis_XVII_of_France\" rel=\"wikipedia\" title=\"Louis XVII of France\">Louis XVII<\/a>, heir to the French throne.&#0160; <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; line-height: 15px;\">In the book, <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2kpkGEV\">A Guide to Public Art in Greater Boston<\/a>, Marty Carlock says Rimmer&#39;s interest in anatomy led him to a career in medicine which he practiced for a few years. Rimmer became a full-time sculptor at age forty-five.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; line-height: 15px;\"> <a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/bostonzest.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00e54fc42bb8883401b8d2609654970c-popup\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CHE_7131 - Version 22015-04-26Alexander Hamilton-spring-bbs-cover-short-\u00a9 2014 Penny Cherubino copy\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00e54fc42bb8883401b8d2609654970c img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/bostonzest.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00e54fc42bb8883401b8d2609654970c-500wi\" style=\"width: 500px;\" title=\"CHE_7131 - Version 22015-04-26Alexander Hamilton-spring-bbs-cover-short-\u00a9 2014 Penny Cherubino copy\" \/><\/a><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 15px;\">This is the only sculpture carved from stone on the Mall. Since Rimmer was self-taught, he used&#0160;his own technique to create it. According to Public Art Boston,&#0160;this technique makes the sculpture &quot;particularly fragile and difficult to maintain.&quot;<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 15px;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/friendsofthepublicgarden.org\/\">Friends of the Public Garden<\/a> have taken on&#0160;the responsibility for restoring and then providing annual maintenance of the artwork in The Boston Common, <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Public_Garden_%28Boston%29\" rel=\"wikipedia\" title=\"Public Garden (Boston)\">Boston Public Garden<\/a>, and Commonwealth Avenue Mall. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 15px;\">To help The Friends pay for this work, you can contribute to the <a href=\"http:\/\/friendsofthepublicgarden.org\/programs-projects\/sculpture-care\/\">Henry Lee Conservation Fund.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>Do you have an Amazon Gift Certificate to use?
