Here's a rundown of what's open and what's closed in Boston on Patriots' Day<\/a> and the MBTA schedules for – Monday, April 15, 2019. Plus tips and information on getting around Boston, parking, marathon issues, trash pickup, and other aspects of t<\/span>his day<\/span> in the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Update 04.09.19 –<\/strong> <\/span>The City of Boston has posted its Patriots' Day Weekend traffic advisory with timelines for parking restrictions and street closings.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Update 03.23.19 –<\/strong> The MBTA has posted its 2019 Marathon info, including: getting to the marathon, additional service & more.<\/a><\/p>\n

Yes, there were women patriots. Women like Abigail Adams.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Patriots' Day is a Massachusetts State Holiday Only.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Open:<\/strong>
Restaurants, Bars, Convenience Stores, Supermarkets, Retail Stores, Liquor Stores<\/p>\n

Financial Services: Banks may open if they wish. All markets are open. <\/p>\n

Federal Offices and Facilities are open: This includes the Postal Service.<\/p>\n

Closed:<\/strong>
Massachusetts City, Town, State Operations: This includes Schools, Libraries. Only emergency services are available. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Boston Parking<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One of the most common questions we get is about street sweeping on Patriots' Day. <\/strong>Here's<\/a> the page from the city website with the answer. It says: <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

"On City holidays<\/a>, we suspend street sweeping during the day, but we still sweep streets at night. On the weekends, we sweep some streets at night. Please always check posted street sweeping signs for information. If you still have questions, please contact 311<\/a>."<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

You don't have to feed the meters. Other parking rules apply<\/span>. Many more streets than in the past will be cleared of parked cars to accommodate the Boston Marathon and Patriots' Day activities.<\/p>\n

Be sure to check your car in the days leading up to the marathon to be certain it is not in a tow-away zone for the event. <\/p>\n

Boston Trash Collection  <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The city has changed the way it publishes the schedule for holidays so that you now have to go to the city site and look up your specific address<\/span><\/span><\/a> <\/span>in order to get information. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

MBTA Marathon Monday Service Information, April 15, 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

  • Blue, Orange, Red, and Silver Lines "will operate a regular weekday schedule<\/a> with rush-hour levels of service before and after the race…" (See the MBTA page for special service notes on the Green Line.) <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Commuter Rail trains "… will operate a regular weekday schedule with additional trains on the Framingham\/Worcester Line to support additional crowds."<\/span><\/li>\n
  • "Buses and trackless trolleys will operate a regular weekday schedule on April 15th …"<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • "… Some bus routes will be detoured to accommodate the Marathon and other festivities. (See the MBTA website for more info.)

      "Customers planning to park in an MBTA garage or lot should allow additional travel time and note that some garages and lots may fill very quickly due to heavy parking demand. "<\/span>
