We\u2019re ringing in a new month with a bottle of G\u00e9rard Bertrand Cr\u00e9mant de Limoux Brut 2012<\/a>.  <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to miss the likeness of Thomas Jefferson that\u2019s pictured on the front label of this cuvee as a tribute from winemaker Gerard Bertrand to our third president whom he called, \u201cLimoux\u2019s greatest admirer,\u201d claiming that, \u201cwine from Limoux was the only sparkling wine to be found in his [Jefferson\u2019s] personal wine cellar.\u201d<\/p>\n

Much has been written about Jefferson\u2019s love of wine including his, \u201cpreference for the lighter French and Italian wines.\u201d<\/a> So, after enjoying this cremant ourselves, we\u2019d have to guess that he\u2019d have been quite pleased with this sparkler.<\/p>\n

Penny thought it was softer and fruitier than many Cremants with a good bit of apple taste. It was full-flavored yet not acidic, balanced, and food-friendly \u2013 pairing well with a Honeycrisp<\/a> and some pretzels.<\/p>\n

That first sip brings a burst of flavor that\u2019s fruity with a tart note that slides underneath and makes you want to go back for more.<\/p>\n

G\u00e9rard Bertrand Cr\u00e9mant de Limoux is a blend of 70% Chardonnay, 15% Chenin Blanc, 10% Mauzac, and 5% Pinot Noir.  (12.5% ABV)<\/p>\n
