  • Window Washers: The Musical

    We were walking along Newbury Street when we spotted these three window washers. They seemed to work in rhythm with one another, as if their movements had been choreographed. They certainly made skilled moves on their swings.

  • Built In Crane??? Now That’s an Amenity!

    From this angle, it looks like this building on St. James Avenue has a built in crane. Ed captured this photo of new trees being planted along the sidewalk. He was equally attracted by the wonderful layers of architecture from this spot outside Bacco's Wine & Cheese and the new Bacco's Fine Foods.

    In reality, the crane or cherry picker was tucked into an alley alongside the building. Some buildings, like the Hancock Tower, do have built in trollies to lower window washers.

  • Bosun’s Chair Connects Window Washers to Boston’s Maritime History

    All over the city, you look up and see window washers suspended from buildings in bosun's chairs.

    It reminded me of what we owe to the maritime legacy of this city. I'm sure these are used around the world, but here they seem fitting and proper.
