Dog Oriented Dogs and People Oriented Dogs

The sight of a person enjoying an afternoon in a park with their dog as companion brings a smile to our faces. We’ve made many friends in Boston because of our dogs. And, those dogs have made friends with a good many other canines on our daily strolls.

Here's a sweet French Bulldog named Chunk sitting on a park bench with Poppy. Chunk is a she and one of the nicest, most people oriented dogs you could ever want to meet. Yes, she has her favorites like our friend John who has to give her special attention when he sees her. She would much rather share the bench with John than with Poppy.

Chunk wasn't sure what to make of this Poppy dog. For the most part, Poppy gives dogs a quick sniff and then she's back to her constant, worried watch for noisy things.

Some dogs are dog oriented and some are people oriented. Our Poppy has a few folks that she adores and a lot of folks that she likes. Most of the time outside, she's more concerned about noise and trucks than people or dogs. But she does enjoy a sit on a bench when there are no trucks or construction locations in sight.

And, if a friendly dog like Chunk wants to share her bench, that's fine with her.

Frenchie Fun, Watching Maudie Grow!

Miss Maude the French Bulldog is a recent additon to our neighborhood and we love watching her grow up and learn new things.

One of the first things she mastered was the totally adoring look she saves for her family.

When we first met Maude, she was quite happy to show us that even at this young age she had mastered licking her nose and dancing at the same time. (Smart girl!)

And, that was at a time when she was still busy growing into her ears! (By the way, these ears are among the softest I've ever found.)

Then, there's her, "I'm getting carried and you have to walk" face. (Don't ever get into a staring contest with this Frenchie. She'll win!)

Here's her perfect "Show Girl" pose. Doesn't it show off her trim and adorable figure? Look at that tiny waist!

Sometimes, she finds our cameras a bit offputting and doesn't mind letting us know she's had enough posing. One of the best things about living in the city is getting to know so many wonderful dogs like Miss Maude.

Lawdy Miss Maudie, you are just too cute! Sorry, but you'll have to get used to the paparazzi and all the people who can't resist your charms.

Frenchie Fun, Watching Maudie Grow!

Our 10-month-old puppy, Poppy loves playing "Queen of the Snowbank!" You can see the smile on her funny little face in this photo.

But, some of her neighbors are not fond of wet or snow.

For example, our pal Smudge loves to Pose but not on wet days. Then, he will do his business in record time and try to get back inside. He thinks kids like Poppy, who like being out in it, are a bit looney tunes.

Elvis Lives Next Door, and that's where he prefers to stay on snowy days. He doesn't like wet. He's not even into cold and declines to go out and play in the wet with Poppy.

What do the dogs in your life think of snow? What do they do that makes you laugh when confronted with a few inches of the white stuff? In her first year, Poppy has become a champion "snow hopper" and that makes all three of us smile.

Sunday Dog, Ollie’s Favorite 4-Letter Word …
When you’re a 5-month-old puppy like Ollie and still trying to make sense of your world, the simplest 4-letter words can mean the most – like “PLAY!”

And, while coaxing a human to get down on all fours can be fun, there’s nothing quite like mixing it up with someone who’s already at your level and even the same age. Well, as it happens, we know someone who fits that exact description.

Our Poppy met Ollie in Provincetown this past week and the two became instant play pals. As you can see by clicking through the images above, they had a lot of fun and always seemed to play fair.

This handsome French Bulldog is a Vermont boy who’s growing fast and loving life. He also seems to love the camera – this guy’s a natural.

Thanks for all the play time, Ollie! Oh, and Poppy wants to know when you’ll be in Ptown again.
