  • Swan Boat in Hiding….

    Small IMG_6444 - Version 22013-06-08-swan-boat-resting-under-bridge-public-garden-© 2011 Penny Cherubino copy

Word on the street (and on the Swan Boat website) is that this beauty will come out of hiding and begin gliding around the Boston Public Garden lagoon this Saturday, April 19, 2014 and will continue making people smile until Sunday, September 21, 2014.

This weekend, make a point of stopping by to welcome back this lovely Boston institution and say thank you to the Paget family for taking such good care of this bit of Boston history.

This photo and others are available for sale in our gallery over on Smugmug.

Customers are urged to take public transportation to and from Fourth of July events and advised to check T-Alerts for the most up-to-date service information during the holiday.

As a reminder, bicycles are not allowed on any subway lines for the entire day on the Fourth of July. Bicycles are also prohibited on inbound Commuter Rail trains from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as well as on outbound trains after 4 p.m.

Customers should also note that all MBTA parking garages and the Wellington Station lot will be pay-on-entry and cash-only on the Fourth of July in order to ensure all customers exit in a timely manner. Due to heavy parking demand, some MBTA parking garages and lots may fill more quickly than normal. Customers planning to park in an MBTA garage or lot should plan accordingly.

Save storage space with these collapsible coolers. They're perfect for small city homes. We have an older version of the Arctic Zone 30 model, and it's amazing at keeping things chilled! We not only use it for picnics but grab it to go grocery shopping.

  • Swan Song Weekend for Swan Boats

This is your final weekend to take a Swan Boat ride on the Public Garden Lagoon. After Sunday, September 16, 2012, the Paget family will be packing up these treasures and taking them away for a winter's rest.

The Swan Boats must be one of the most photographed features in Boston, even though they are only here from April to September. They add a sense of tranquility to the city and have a long and interesting history with one family acting as the stewards of this treasure since 1877.

  • We Love June in Boston!

June is often the most gentle and gracious time of year in Boston. I really enjoy being here this month. This valentine to June in our adopted hometown was inspired by a conversation over on Trip Advisor. The crew there were collecting things that were happening during the month. My two cents worth was to let everyone know why Ed and I think June in Boston is so special.

Most of the graduations are over. Just UMass Boston on June 1st and MIT on the 8th remain. Then, the locals and smartest of visitors have the city to themselves.

The greenery is glowing. The city seems to take a deep breath and relax. There is just something special about this lull before the July 4th activity that makes it a sweeter place.

It's a month to picnic and sit and read by the river. The weather is often the most comfortable of the year. Don't get me wrong. I love the rest of the year too, but June is special.
