We are expecting more than 30 of them to crop up this winter; to find out if there is a Winter Market opening up near you visit our website [www.massfarmersmarkets.org], click on the FIND tab and type the word "WINTER' in the 'name of market' field.” They are adding new information as market details are submitted.

    A Destination Market in Wayland

We've included the Wayland Market in this list because this is a wonderful destination market.

When father frost has us in his icy grip, the Wayland Winter Market at Russell’s Garden Center is a trip to the tropics. Russell’s lush greenhouses are turned into a festival of food vendors. They not only sell products for you to enjoy at home, but also host a food court where you can enjoy breakfast or lunch in the greenhouse.

Wayland Winter Farmers' Market’s “Massachusetts Farm Wineries Day”

This market supports all aspects of local food production. In addition to having local wine and cheese producers on their regular vendor list, they hold special events for them. The annual Massachusetts Farm Wineries Day will be held on January 26. This year, the Russell’s team has added a Farm Cheese Day on March 2nd. These are opportunities to sample, purchase, and support these value-added products from area farms.

Update: Over on Chowhound I learned about the  Medford Winter Farmers' Market on Thursdays from 3 pm to 7pm at Hyatt Place in Medford Square.

  • What’s Open in Boston on Veterans Day 2012, MBTA Schedule Changes

    20091102DSC_9813 - Version 2

UPDATE: What's Open in Boston on Veterans Day 2013

Here's a run-down of what's open in Boston on Veterans' Day, information on Boston trash collection, parking meters, and MBTA schedules for Monday, November 12, 2012. This year, the city of Boston is celebrating the holiday on the Monday following the traditional date of November 11th. That means you can start planning a long weekend.

Be very careful about parking meters on Monday. *Please read the detailed note below.

But, the State is calling Sunday, November 11th Veteran's Day making that the day with pay regulations.

We publish these reminders before each holiday to help you make the most of your time off!

    Restaurants, bars: Open

    Convenience stores: Open

    Supermarkets: Open

Retail stores: Are allowed to open if the owners choose

    Liquor stores: Open

City, Town, State and Federal offices and facilities are closed: This includes schools, libraries, and the Postal Service (express mail will be delivered). Only emergency services are available.

Financial Services: As the British would say, this is a Bank Holiday with most Banks closed. But, we are noticing that some banks are keeping some branches open so check with your own institution.

Stock market: Open, as are international markets.

*Boston Parking: Here's what the city says, you may have to read this a few times.

"City of Boston parking meters are free on Sundays and legal holidays
and no time limit is enforced.  All other parking regulations,
including rush hour restrictions at meters, remain in effect.  It is important to note that this applies only to the day that the actual holiday falls on, not to the day that offices may be closed in celebration of the holiday.  For example, if New Year's Day is Saturday but offices are closed on Friday in recognition of the holiday, parking meters will be in operation on Friday but not on Saturday."
Remember this holiday falls on Sunday but the city offices are closed on Monday.

Street Sweeping: City says, "Daytime street sweeping is suspended on city holidays, but nighttime sweeping schedules remain in effect. Constituents are advised to call 617-635-4500 for exact details."

More information on Boston Trash Schedules and MBTA after this ad.

Financial Services: As the British would say, this is a Bank Holiday with most Banks closed. But, we are noticing that some banks are keeping some branches open so check with your own institution.

*Boston Parking: Here's what the city says, you may have to read this a few times.

and no time limit is enforced.
