Our search for great Jamaican Patties took a surprise detour when we spotted the Jamaica Mi Hungry Food Truck on the Greenway. This was our first encounter with this happy crew but we'll be following them around town after our first bite of their luscious Jamaican beef patties.
This patty made it home for its close-up with a camera. We wanted to be sure you could see the flaky layers of crust and the finely ground filling. You'll have to get one of your own to taste the blend of rich flavor and spice.
But our first taste was of this one, shared right out of the bag on a table on the Greenway. The aroma made it irresistible, despite the fact that we were walking back from a picnic on the waterfront when we spotted the truck.
When we see the word Jamaican on a restaurant or truck, we do an immediate search of the menu for our favorite, little, spicy turnovers. This one is among the best we've ever tried and we'll be stocking up each time we see the truck.
The menu offered both a beef and veggie patty and you can also order it with coco bread. Naturally we'll be trying the rest of the menu. It looks like the chef has created some great offerings. Right now they are on the Greenway three days a week. You can check for an updated schedule here.

Boston has a wonderful array of parks and a few of them are dog-friendly. These are the places we love to go to sit on a bench or spread out a blanket and spend a bit of time enjoying dog watching, one of our favorite pastimes.
Christopher Columbus Park on the waterfront is a great destination for this game. You'll see dog walkers with packs in tow.
People running with their dogs.
Frisky frolickers like this little bit of a dog who was the fastest pup in the park during our visit. Zoom! Zoom!
Dogs and people who disagree on the direction of their stroll.
Pauses for sniffs while the person on the other end of the leash enjoys the view.
Great people watching, boat watching, airplane watching
Shady spots under the arbor
Walls and steps as extra seating
Great photo subject like dogs, boats, architecture, and skylines
This is a great activity for hot days when moving around is taxing on everyone. And remember that the trip to a cooler waterfront location can be made on the MBTA with your dog – outside of rush hour.
June is a great time to take a ride with your dog if this will be a new experience. As you can see in the photo above, off-peak hours often find the trains fairly empty.

Join us as we lift a glass of a favorite sparkling wine to toast our new month of June 2016. We'll be toasting with an old favorite, Nino Franco Rustico.
This is a great summer wine and will add some fizzy fun to any day or any event. It is extremely food friendly, light in alcohol (11% ABV), and refreshing. This wine makes you understand why a glass of Prosecco is the start of so many meals in Italy. And it will make believers of people who have been put off my lesser quality, semi-dry Proseccos.
It is a wine to enjoy in any summer location or at home to remind you of days at that beachside getaway. (Frankly, remembering our recent stay in Provincetown is one of our reasons for choosing to begin June with a glass of Rustico.)
Our Tips for Summer Sparklers!
Consider serving one wonderful sparkling wine at your next party. Living in a tiny home, the only wine glasses we own in quantity are flutes. When we entertain, we serve sparkling wine!
Summer heat calls for lower alcohol, check the labels to find crisp, refreshing sparklers under 12% ABV.
As you fill a bucket with bottles of fun fizz, add an equal number of bottles of sparkling water. As you walk around refilling glasses, offer your guests a choice of water or wine. If you drink one full glass of water for each glass of wine, you'll stay hydrated and cut calories.
Ask your wine merchant to guide you to sparkling wines made from different grape varieties and from countries and wine regions beyond the usual sources of Champagne, Prosecco, Cava, Cremant, etc.
Cin Cin to June! May your month be filled with good things. We plan to enjoy the quiet time in Boston and toast our life in the city, often, with a glass of bubbles.

Save storage space with these collapsible coolers. Perfect for small city homes. We had many years of use from an older version of the Arctic Zone 30 model. It was amazing at keeping things chilled. We not only used it for picnics but also grabbed it to go grocery shopping.

The city has changed the way it publishes the schedule for holidays so that you now have to go to thecity site and look up your specific addressin order to get information.
Lunch, last Monday, was the famous porchetta sandwich from the PennyPackers food truck. We highly recommend that all our friends and followers in the area join us in making Mondays "Pennypackers Porchetta Day." It can be the Back Bay version of Prince Spaghetti Day with better food.
Last Monday Penny split off on our dog walk to drop a package at the Post Office on Clarendon Street. Her secondary assignment was to pick up lunch along the way home. Imagine her joy as she neared the corner of Clarendon and Boylston (map) and spotted the word "Porchetta" in large letters on the back of a food truck.
The truck was Pennypackers and that sandwich is their specialty.
There it was on the menu, the porchetta sandwich with rhubarb mostarda. After a hurried walk home to have lunch ASAP, we were both savoring the deeply seasoned pork, stuffing, and the lift of the mostarda. (As you may have noticed from past posts, Penny is a big rhubarb fan and was thrilled to see it used in this classic Italian condiment.)
It wasn't until we studied the rest of the menu in the quick photos taken while waiting for the porchetta, that we both wished we had ordered a second or third item to have that night for supper.
Pennypackers posts their daily status and menu on Twitter and Facebook. Like or follow them for updates on where they are and what they are serving.
Update: (05.16.16) Wepicked up these items for lunch! (Click on photos for larger images) Left to Right: Crushed Fried Potatoes, Fried Chicken Sandwich, and Ribeye Sandwich. They were all hits – especially the potatoes!
Here's what the porchetta looks like before it becomes a delectable sandwich. (from the Pennypackers facebook page.)
Brick & Mortar Pennypackers
Like a few of the other great food truck families, Pennypackers has opened a brick and mortar restaurant. If the food truck schedule doesn't work for you, visit them at 514C Medford Street, Somerville, MA. (map) Right now that location is open Thursdays through Sundays. The hours are posted here.
Please get out and support our local food trucks. You'll have a better meal than you would from a national chain and you'll be helping a small business grow just the way we see Pennypackers growing.
