Provincetown in Early Spring

We just returned from a two week escape to Provincetown, MA. Early spring gave us a new perspective on the town and another time when we know we can enjoy this lovely place.

This was the view from our new favorite deck. The moorings were empty, the sea was stormy, there was a mist in the air, but it was a beautiful, restful, and peaceful day.

In the next couple of weeks, we'll drop in more photos and give you more reasons why you might want to enjoy Provincetown now as locals and visitors return, shops and restaurants begin to open, and the quiet is deeply soothing.

Provincetown in Early Spring

Guy Larmandier, Cramant Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, Our May Sparkler

This time, our Sparkler of the Month is a Champagne, Guy Larmandier, Cramant Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut NV to be specific. Happy new month!

Those of you who follow our sparkling wine posts may have noticed that we seldom choose a 100% Chardonnay wine. But, we did take this recommendation at Gordon’s because it was from one of our favorite importers, Neal Rosenthal.

We took this gem from our wine rack to Provincetown to sit and sip by the sea. Note that this is a Grand Cru Champagne from the Village of Cramant. It is not a Crémant from another part of France.

And, it lived up to our expectations! It’s a blanc de blancs that is playing in a different key. Penny couldn’t place the fruit she was tasting, so she looked up reviews and then asked Ed what he thought it was. His answer was one shared by experts, pear!

This is a celebration wine, a bit more expensive ($59.99) than some of our selections, but anytime we’re in Provincetown, we want to celebrate! We sipped this bottle over a couple of days and Ed thought it got better when it had more time in the glass and longer to breath. He reminds you not to serve it too cold.

And, we’ve learned, if you’re going to have a blanc de blancs, make it one from a great importer like Neal Rosenthal.

Nino Franco Rustico has been one of our favorite sparkling wines since we first sipped a glass in a Boston restaurant many years ago.

Recently, we enjoyed a bottle of Nino Franco in Provincetown and couldn't resist doing a photo shoot with the fantastic light and wonderful backdrops we found at Chandler House.

We bring you these photos today with a message.

Please don't give your clients, business associates, and friends the wines you see in TV ads as holiday gifts. A good wine shop can recommend a good wine value that you can give with pride. And, it will be one that will please both the occasional sipper and wine aficionado.

If you buy a good wine by the case, you can save even more. Stock up on "just-in-case gifts for the season" and be ready for a party at a moments notice.

Quiet Moment on a Quiet Provincetown Lane

Provincetown is especially delightful in September and October when the town breathes a sigh of relief after the busy summer season. We are back in Boston but will be sharing some of our favorite shots from our time at lands end.

We recommend an autumn trip to this special place. You can still take a day trip by high speed catamaran if that fits your schedule.

Don't miss an autumn photo opportunity. This Canon PowerShot G15 camera
will give you what you need to take stills and video of Fall Colors. Canon's G series is our all-time favorite for everyday cameras. We own the G10 and G11. They're a little bigger than the compacts most people use, but let you shoot with automatic settings or easy-to-use manual controls that please the many pros who use them as second cameras.

And, if you are ready to turn pro, follow our lead. Ed Shoots with the Nikon D7000 Digital SLR, too and Penny uses a Nikon D600 and is extremely happy with the performance it's delivered.
