Toasting June with Raventos i Blanc de Nit

Raventos i Blanc de Nit is one of our finds from Perry’s in Provincetown. We were happy to see more of this wonderful Spanish sparkler in the cooler on a recent visit.

This wine comes from a Spanish estate that has been owned by the same family of winegrowers since 1497. And, they have been making sparkling wine by the traditional method since 1872.

We enjoyed one bottle on a rainy afternoon by the sea. And, we are welcoming June, the month that brings us summer, with another.

Our scribbled notes from our last two tastings contain words like smooth, round, balanced, and sophisticated. We both found ourselves enjoying the lingering bouquet and the rose gold color in our glasses.

We can’t wait to pop the cork on another bottle of this beauty!

Scotties Posing Pretty in Provincetown

An old friend once said that getting more than one dog to pose for the camera is like trying to keep Jell-O® on a shelf. True, for the most part, unless you run into this pair of Scottish Terriers who pose on request.

At first it seems like a normal two dog situation. One would look at me, the other was more interested in his paw.

But then their people said a magic word and they sat, side by side, and locked eyes on me and my camera.

They even do a perfect terrier tippy head for a different magic word.

I have to admit, the side view was caught by accident when another dog came near. They looked, but they did not move. Good dogs!

The Lobster Pot in Provincetown… For Take Out Too!

The Lobster Pot in Provincetown is a familar place to most people who visit Provincetown. You may think of it as a spot to eat, in the center of town, with waterfront dining rooms. You may not realize that you can also stop by to order live lobsters or have them prepare a ready-to-eat take out order of anything on the menu.

We always have at least one lobster dinner during our Ptown vacations. One day this spring, we had the Lobster Pot cook a couple of big lobsters, some steamers, and at the suggestion of a very nice staff person we added bread and salad. We feasted back at the apartment and had plenty of lobster left over for lobster rolls the next day.

In summer, you can place your order at the raw bar just inside the front door. If it's one of the slower times of year, like it was when we visited, you just go back to the service bar and the bartender will take care of you.

Stop by on your first stroll through town and pick up a paper copy of the menu or download a PDF copy here.

That way, you'll be ready to call in or visit with an order when you want to have a Lobster Pot feast at your Provincetown home base or on the beach if that's your pleasure.

Describing Provincetown, MA

Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod is a place so beautiful that it has attracted generations of artists and writers who have found the light that bounces around from sea, sand, and sky inspiring.

Michael Cunningham, in his book Land's End: A Walk in Provincetown, writes:

"… the land on which Provincetown is built is essentially a sandbar, tenuously connected to the mainland, continually reconfigured by the actions of tides. When Thoreau went there in the mid-1800s, he called it 'a filmy sliver of land lying flat on the ocean, a mere reflection of a sand-bar on the haze above.' It has not changed much since then, at least not when seen from a distance. Built as it is at the very end of the Cape, which unfurls like a genie's shoe from the coastline of Massachusetts, it follows the curve of a long, lazy spiral and looks not out to sea but in, toward the thicker arm of the Cape."

This is a very special place. It's our escape when we need a break from Boston. At the same time, it is an urban space where you can arrive by ferry or park the car and not really need it for the time you are there.

Poppy’s Provincetown Report

Duchess Poppy spent her second birthday in Provincetown. This is her report …

If you'd like to go to a very dog friendly place, I recommend Provincetown. Not only were the pups on the street happy to share a sniff, but you can even go to a restaurant patio with your people. And, lots of shops are happy to have a well-behaved dog (like moi) assist their family with a bit of shopping.

The downside of all this dining and shopping and sniffing is that vacationing can make even a young pup like me very tired. Make sure you catch a nap when you can. As you can see, I packed my Mambe blanket so I could stretch out on the sofa just like I do at home.

At the beach, I met this old gent who showed me how to walk on the rocks without hurting my paws. He's kind of a Yoda to younger dogs. He said he learned from Yoda who told him, "Always pass on what you have learned."

I really like "decking." That's when you share a chaise lounge with one of your favorite people while they read. I even liked doing this when the wind was messing up my hairstyle.

Lots of great dogs live in Provincetown. This Corgi was taking time to enjoy the sun and smell the pansies.

The bestest thing about Provencetown is that you get lots of snuggle time with your family. They are not so busy and after all the long walks we took, they were ready to settle down, and let me curl up and pillow my little head on them.

Poppy’s Provincetown Report

If you'd like to go to a very dog friendly place, I recommend Provincetown. Not only were the pups on the street happy to share a sniff, but you can even go to a restaurant patio with your people.
