Beware of Sunday Dog! Masked Beauty “Miika” Steals Hearts!

Too late! We tried to warn you. Masked beauty Miika has stolen another heart and you’re smiling, aren’t you? It’s perfectly okay. We couldn’t resist her hypnotic charm either.

This 14-week-old Siberian Husky mix is getting to know her new home in Boston and winning over everyone she meets! With the help of the Sterling Animal Shelter, Miika arrived in town a few weeks ago and is already adapting to city life.

While she’s liking the city, Miika admitted to having been a little scared during a recent, heavy rain storm. But, after making friends with the puddles it left behind, this inquisitive puppy just might be warming up to all that wet stuff.

Her favorite toy is a huge, stuffed dog (almost as big is she is) that Miika likes to sleep with.

Miika has been quick to learn that only going while outside makes her housemates happy– not a surprising achievement for this highly intelligent breed.

Thanks for being such a great model, Miika. You’re one special girl. We’re looking forward to watching you grow.

Beware of Sunday Dog! Masked Beauty “Miika” Steals Hearts!

Poppy Says, “Thank You!”

Poppy is popping back into the Sunday Dog spotlight to say, "Thanks!" to everyone who held off on patting her, cuddling her, and introducing her to their dogs while she was waiting to have immunity from diseases that could make her very sick.

We explained this danger period for puppies back in 2009 in this post:

Welcome Puppy Reggie to the Neighborhood

First steps on the ground in Boston.

On Friday, Poppy was 16 weeks old and finally her little paws could hit the sidewalks of Boston. At last, she could interact with some of the people who had been waiting to hold her and pat her, and with some of the dogs who'd been waiting to sniff her butt!

And after a long walk, she had a long sleep.

Also, while we're passing out the thanks, we really appreciated the kind words from Lisa DeCanio over at BostInno. She not only included BostonZest in her 21 Local Must-Read Food Blogs, but also liked our Sunday Dog collection!

Here’s How to Do the “Kobe Krawl”

Of all the Sunday Dogs we’ve featured, Kobe is the first (as far as we know) who can crawl on command! Now we realize that Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are very bright, but this little one is only four months old!

It’s also worth mentioning that despite his tender age, Kobe holds down a full-time job! This inspiring overachiever works locally at Google– a company that obviously values a canine point of view. When Kobe’s at the office, he mostly assists when needed which often means there’s a lot of downtime to fill.

Besides his superior learning skills, Kobe also excels in other ways. This happy, inquisitive ball of energy is already building quite a reputation for himself as an all-around friendly guy.

Getting to know the neighbors his high on his to-do list. Kobe loves all dogs and their four-legged companions too!

As tongues go, we were fascinated by Kobe’s– has to be great for scooping up water!

We learned that Kobe can’t get enough soft, squeaky toys and who can blame him! He also likes to gnaw on bully sticks.

Puppies don’t come any cuter than Kobe and we’re looking forward to watching him grow. And, we can’t wait to see what trick he masters next!

Say Hello to Poppy, Our New VP of Security & Morale!

At BostonZest every member of the team is important, especially the VP of Security & Morale. So after a long and thorough search, we’re excited to announce that Duchess Poppy Whitehead has accepted our offer to fill this vital position.

This lovely, little girl arrived one week ago today and immediately assumed her duties, lifting the spirits of everyone she meets. As with any new hire, there will be an extensive training period as we all get to know each other.

While at times exhausting, Poppy says she’s up for the challenge. This amazing Westy comes to us with a long list of talents. Besides being a cuddler, a kisser, and a belly-rub fan, at 14-weeks-old she’s already nosing around the timelines on Twitter.

On her second day here, Poppy mastered iPad scrolling with her nose! It’s really not all that surprising when you consider that she also watches TV, but admittedly hasn’t mastered the remote, yet.

Poppy is adapting to the city soundtrack– including an encounter with the blasting horn and blaring siren of a fire truck answering a call… didn’t even flinch!

Relaxing on the Weigh-In Table While Waiting for Her Vet to Arrive

Poppy’s also learning to walk on a lead, follow some basic house rules, and is beginning to get comfortable in her new digs. Plus, she’s making lots of new friends!

But, her biggest accomplishments have been melting our hearts and bringing back our laughter– something Poppy did the moment she climbed into our arms.

Two of the great things we have on hand for our new VP are these Reusable, washable piddle padsnormally used for human incontinence but also perfect for protecting furniture and floors from accidents that wee pups might have. Meet Raisin from Four Preppy Paws on Charles Street

Raisin was nowhere in sight when we stopped by Four Preppy Paws on Charles Street in Beacon Hill. We needed to ask her to model for a photo we were taking for Penny's City Paws newpaper column.

We soon discovered that she was hiding in plain sight, under a pretty pink blanket in the front window of the shop. She was kind enough to pop out for a few minutes to let us take some shots.

She loves snoozing under the covers while serving as consultant for the shop.

She thinks she's well hidden behind a couple of big dog beds and she does have her assistant watchdog on duty while she rests.

We think Raisin is very pretty and has a regal profile. She's also a lot of fun and we were happy that her request to put her cover-up back over her head was quickly accommodated by her person.
