Sunday Dog, Ruby – Just Call Her “Perfect”

Say Hello to Ruby – or as we like to call her, Perfect! This extraordinary 4 ½ year old was rescued a year ago from California via Petfinder and now calls the Bay State home. Ruby spends her time in Boston and Plymouth where she gets to walk wooded trails and play with lots of other neighborhood dogs.

Perfect … uh, Ruby has a great disposition and has been this way since “day one.” Her people have been amazed saying, “She’s the easiest dog I have [ever had.]” And, “I’ve never seen anything like this dog!”

There’s no doubt that this little heart-stealer is very devoted to the guy in her life, “No matter where Ruby is in the house, she keeps her eyes on him at all times.”

Ruby is also quite clever. After repeatedly being put inside a very comfortable, designer crate to keep her safe and out of trouble when the family stepped out for awhile, she would always be standing outside the crate when they returned.

A perfect dog often gets kissed which explains the red lipstick above Ruby’s Right Eye.

Finally, making certain the crate door was secured, they pretended to leave but secretly watched from outside her room and saw Ruby using her nose, paw, and tongue to unlatch the crate and escape! (Sounds like she crate-trained her family)

When she wants to go to sleep for the night, Ruby will stand and stare at her people until they get the hint, then it’s onto their bed.

From day-one Ruby, “never wet in the house, never did anything wrong, and never chewed anything.” Now that’s a “perfect” dog!

Sunday Dog, Zoe – the Cutest “Morkie” We’ve Ever Met!

Zoe is a little bit Maltese and a little bit Yorkie – a “Morkie” (sometimes called a Malkie or Yorktese). But, no matter what you call her, Zoe definitely has the cutes!

This adorable 9-month-old, who relocated from Florida last summer, is getting used to dressing up for the New England weather and of course looks great no matter what she wears.

Zoe loves playing with her pink, cloth Frisbie and is learning that the toilet paper is not her toy.

“Did someone say Toilet Paper?”

Her favorite person told us that Zoe, “absolutely loves attention and adores being around people and other dogs (big or small). And like most Yorkies that have a big personality, my Zoe will confront the bigger dogs like Great Danes and Pointers with no fear, not realizing she is only 7 pounds!"

Zoe was actually playing with our Poppy, here! But, it looks as though she could hold her own if the situation called for it.

By the way, we were fascinated by our Sunday Dog’s level of style and fashion sense, usually not seen at such a young age. So, before you ask, Zoe did not reveal her colorist’s name, but we’re betting this stunning color mix will be the new fall look. See you around, Zoe!

Sunday Dog, Cozmo – Lifelong Sockoholic!

“Hello, my name is Cozmo, and I’m a Sockoholic.”

It’s alright, Cozmo. We got complete details from your person, who says she loves you in spite of your, u-h-h fetish. And, besides your friends, I think you’ll find that all of our Sunday Dog readers will be there for you too.

Of course, this affliction is not limited to handsome Scotties. There are many other dogs (Poppy, that means you) and cats that struggle with the urge to stuff those fluffy, soft, and irresistibly odiferous clumps of cloth between their pearly whites.

Cozmo will go into the bathroom and specifically search through the dirty laundry basket for socks. He was caught once with six socks in his mouth! The giveaway was that his person saw him with both black & white socks protruding from his mouth and knew there had to be at least two in there! No wonder she says, “He’s just a very funny, little dog!”

We’re told that this 9 ½ year old is named for Cosmo Kramer and “like the Seinfeld character he has a very dry sense of humor.” He’s also “a regal little dog with a big personality … very calm for a Scottie, very brave, too!”

And, we have to say, the kind of rascal that makes for one very special Sunday Dog!

Poppy says, “I Prefer a Onesie to a Cone!”

Miss Poppy is making another "Sunday Dog" appearance to protest cones on dogs. She was so offended by the nice, soft Comfy Cone we bought for her post-spay recovery period that we had to find a different solution to keep her from licking her incision.

We have long been fans of t-shirts on dogs. We've used them to protect rescue dogs with skin problems and as an easy-to-wash cover to keep our little, white dogs clean on messy days. We had t-shirts for Poppy but they only covered the incision if she didn't squirm around too much. Our solution was an infant's onesie!

We measured Poppy around her girth and from neck to tail and brought a tape measure to a discount store and measured the onesies. We learned that a 12-month onesie would fit our little pup. We picked one with no seams on the belly and extra snaps on the neckline to make it easy to get on and off.

She wore this while inside and we switched to a t-shirt to protect the incision from dirt and wet when she went outside.

The bonus was since this was right around Halloween, we convinced her that it was really a Froggie costume!

Update 11.12.16: This onesie came out of storage to have a second success story. Miss Skye (featured in our "We Finally Met the Famous Westie Puppy Skye!" post) has had her big girl operation and was not totally thrilled with her cone. Maybe it runs in the Westie family! We passed on the onesie and her guardian sent us this photo and said, "The onesie is genius! She is so much happier even though she was managing the cone."
